If you let your mom know how much she is loved and appreciated, you will be giving her, the most wonderful gift ever.

This may seem obvious but often we forget. We think that giving a large gift will reflect our feelings but for many moms this isn't the case.

Certainly give fancy gifts and expensive presents, after all who doesn't like a gift that has been chosen with love and care, but don't let the presents do the talking. In the northern hemisphere, mothers day occurs in Spring. Why not make a connection between the new beginnings of spring and motherhood such as new growth, birth and your own mum growing you, nurturing you.

For those in the southern hemisphere- mothers day is in the autumn. The days are getting shorter and the weather getting cooler. You could say how this reminds you of autumn as a child when you and your mum would snuggle under a blanket and read books. Or how you both went out to the park and collected fallen leaves and fir cones.

Does she have some quirks or mannerisms that you could talk about in a light hearted way.

• The way she always has to have a cup of tea and slice of cake at a particular time.
• Or her bedtime routine
• what about when she gets ready to go out, does she always lose her car keys?
