Birthday Quotations

Examples of Birthday Quotations when used in a speech

Ok, so you know you want to use a saying in your speech. Here are some different ways to include them along with some general tips.

Ensure the saying fits with the style and tone of your speech. For example, if you are giving a speech that is light hearted or funny, choose one that will raise a smile or laugh from your audience. Such as : 'It’s better to be over the hill than 6 feet under it!'.

Of course if you are giving a serious speech something like this 'Maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had, and what you've learned from them, and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated ' might be a better fit.

So how do you go about including one? Do you just stick it anywhere that you have a gap and do not know what to say. You know the answer to that don't you. No of course not. A good speaker will weave the saying in seamlessly. Here's how.

We will use John as our good friend who is celebrating his 35th birthday

At the beginning of the speech....

Can I have a bit of quiet please, and that includes you John. I know John you may think you are special today because it is your birthday, well you are wrong. If you are quiet I will tell you why. It is not just on your birthday that you are special, you are special everyday, which is why all your friends and family are here today to celebrate your birthday.  In fact.....

In the middle

....John certainly lives by the adage 'You are only young once, but you can be immature for a lifetime', take last week for example. He was (and then move on to the story that reflects his immaturity)

Before The Toast

Include a birthday quotation before the toast, or adapt one so it is part of the birthday toast, for example'...Luicille Ball  once famously said that the secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age but I think she forgot to mention to drink well too. So with that in mind let us raise our glasses....
