Demonstration Speech Outline

Easily create your demonstration speech outline

A demonstration speech follows a basic speech outline. The following is specfic to demonstrations.

Beginning

Introduce yourself:

If appropriate, give your job title, role and experience.

Tell the audience what to expect:
  • Different parts of the presentation (choosing wood, shaping it, varnish).
  • What aids, visual and audio you will be using.
  • Question time- will you be accepting questions during the presentation or after.

Middle

This is where the majority of your content is. Since it is a demonstration, be sure to have all your visual and audio aids easily assessable.

Take your time. Speech anxiety often leads to talking quickly but your audience are there to learn from you. It is important to give them time to digest and understand what you are saying, so slow down.

Present it in a logical sequence. It may help to have a slide presentation or handout with numbered points so they can follow the steps. This will also help you to keep track.

If you want your audience to ask questions as you go along, give them many opportunities to do so.You can do this by
  • By pausing between steps
  • Asking for questions
  • Ensuring everyone understands - ask them, observe their body language
Prepare answers for popular questions.

Conclusion

Here you summarize your speech. It should briefly recap what you have discussed in the middle section but does not add anything new. Remember to ask for questions even if your listeners have been asking questions throughout.

In your questioning, ask if any one would want to see the visual aids again.
