Demonstration Speech

Demonstration speech topics can be about nearly anything, but sometimes when it comes to choosing a topic you might not know where to start.

When choosing something to talk about, do not just think about what you will say, but think about how you are going to present it. You might find some great subject matter, but then realize it is too difficult to demonstrate.

Something else you need to consider is your audience members and their different styles of learning.

Some people may grasp concepts and instructions really easily whilst others have difficulties.

It will probably be similar with your audience members. Some of them will want you in your presentation to walk them, step by step through the process, whilst others would rather you focused on something else.

So how do you know who wants what? The best way to find out is to do some research.

Knowing your listeners, (also known as audience analysis) will tell you about their make up,so you can start develop a presentation that will suit them.

After all, your audience is attending your presentation to learn something. You need to be sure that you can help them achieve it.

Once you know the composition of your audience, start asking yourself:

  • Should you include lots of technical terms, or keep it simple?
  • Can you skip the basics?
  • What will you do if any audience members start contradicting you?
  • What type of aids should you use?
  • If you need volunteers, who will be the most appropriate?
  • What is the best way for you to structure your presentation, is it based on the demonstration speech outline?
  • Do you need handouts?
  • What about your slide templates? A well designed template can give your speech that extra something. If you really want to impress your audience use professional templates.
