Free Birthday Speech Tips So You Don't Have To Worry

A birthday speech is not important is it? Why worry about preparing a good one. It's not like a wedding speech – a once in a lifetime event ( one hopes). After all if you get it wrong this year, there is always next year.

First birthday. Who wants to mess up a child's first birthday speech?
Then there are the 'coming of age' milestones, the key to the door speeches ... 18th and 21st birthday. 
People celebrating their decade birthdays such as  30th, 40th and 50th usually have a party and no party isn't complete unless there is a speech.
After 60 you start to move into the 'older person's speech' .
Don't fall into the trap of thinking because a person isn't celebrating a milestone birthday then the birthday isn't that special.
Some people may have had to battle the odds to reach their next birthday. So if you have been given the privilege of giving the birthday speech do it well. Remember speeches are more than just words. People may not remember what you say, but they will remember how you made them feel.

Don't panic.. it is nothing hard, but do some preparation now and you won't end up with egg on your face.
Know your audience. Don't forget to include anyone who might see a recording of your speech.
By knowing and understanding your audience you can ensure you choose the right style, tone and content for your talk. There is nothing worse than putting a lot of effort into your presentation and for it not to be appreciated.
The easiest way to find out who will be in your audience, is to ask the host.  For example you might want to know if the following will be attending.
Children, close family, distant relatives, colleagues, senior staff members, church parishioners, media, school friends and teachers.
Are you the only speaker? If not when do you present? ( are you first, third etc)
What are the other presenters going to talk about? You don't won't to be duplicating content.
Speech Length – ask the host how long they would like the speech to be
Props – will you be including some baby photos, or other memorabilia as visual aids in your birthday speech?

Creating your speech

Get started by referring to the speech outline sample. .Stories and speeches work well together if done correctly but just remember to keep in mind who will be hearing them.

If other people have given a speech thank them also
Mention any special moments getting to this birthday. it doesn't have to be sad ( like an illness) a bit of humour can work well such as ...' i never thought i would see 40 after i bought that banger of a car'
Share any interesting plans you have between now and your next birthday
End of a high note ...' i'm having a great time here celebrating my birthday hopefully you can all join me next year, I'm plan to party on 'bondi beach'
