Be Yourself

If you are a naturally serious person who rarely makes jokes, delivering a funny speech may be out of your comfort zone. Standing up in front of a large crowd is nerve racking enough, let alone trying to be someone you are not.

However, if telling a joke or two comes naturally you should be able to liven up the ceremony.

Adding Humor

  • Humor should come after you have said your thank-you’s.
  • There are more ways than one to make your listeners smile.
  • Include an amusing incidence you’ve experienced.
  • Don’t use jokes from emails as your classmates will probably have received the same email.
  • Do not announce jokes
  • Don't make some one else the butt of them.
  • Comedy relies on correct timing and emphasizing, so practice, practice and practice.
