Military Retirement Speech

Your Military Retirement Speech needs to meet many protocols

Military retirement speech advice is difficult to give as there are many protocols you need to follow.

Regardless of whether you are in the army, navy or air force these rules need adhering to.

Since they are very important and are subject to change it would not be wise for me to comment on what you should and should not include in your speech.

However I have listed some general tips to help you.

Military Retirement Speech Preparation Tips

  • Find out exactly what you are required to include.
  • Once you know what you must include, write a checklist. It can be simple as a paper list or more fancy with check boxes and done on the computer.
  • Whatever method you choose for your checklist make it easy, and something you will use. Don’t use it as a procrastination tool. (i.e. spend more time making the list so you are putting off speech writing).
  • Is there a military standard format or outline you need to follow. Look at your speech topics and ideas and mark next to them where about in the speech they must be. For example, if your thanks must be at the beginning place a B for next to the topic.
  • Start your research early.
  • Ensure your facts are correct.
  • Review some samples. There are some examples freely available on the internet. Also you may have access to military only websites when previous retirees have posted their speeches, if so check them out.
  • Confirm the protocol for military toast

Final Thoughts

If you are writing your speech on the computer be sure to back it up. Similarly if you are writing with pen and paper take a photocopy occasionally.

And don’t forget to keep practicing.
