Do this or else!! Wow if someone said this to you what would you do? I know I probably do as I was told, the 'or else' sounds too scary.


 But let us think about the person who uttered the words ' Do this or else', would you say they are being persuasive or just plain scary.


Now what about you. Have you thought what you are going to say, and how you will say it? A good starting point is to really understand what and what isn't a persuasive speech.


Once you have that knowledge it is time to get started.


Before you start writing it is a good idea to stop and think about your audience. By spending a little time doing some audience analysis ( more on this can be found in my speakers' handbook) you are going to gain a wealth of information. This information will help you find out which buttons to push.


Now that might sound a bit scheming, but let's be honest here, you are not giving a presentation for the fun of it, your goal is to get your audience to believe in what you are saying. Knowing what buttons to push is a great way to achieve ths. ( a persausive speech helpfu insight as to why some sales people know can make mega money)


 How?


Well according to Aristotle a Greek philosopher there are three persuasive speech methods

Understanding and knowing your audience will give you an idea what method will work best with them.
You may have an audience they comprises of people who will accept your argument easily once they are sure you are credible, Or maybe they are more likely to be  swayed by emotions, otherwise you may have listeners who will only  make up their mind once they have the cold, hard, facts.


Audience composition will vary depending on many different factors. But it is very likely that you will have at least someone from each group so knowing the best way to convince each of these three areas: Ethos, Pathos and Logos will give you a great advantage to creating a successful persuasive speech.


Don't just stick to using words, visual aids are a great medium for the getting the point across. You only have to think of the images on the news to realise how powerful pictures are.  People who are swayed by cold hard facts love to look at graphs and pie charts.


Finding persuasive speech ideas and free persuasive speech topics is pretty straightforward but what separates a great public speaker from a mediocre one is knowing what makes a good persuasive speech topic. This is another reason how early audience analysis will benefit you. For example, if your know that the majority of your audience are only interested in the facts you need to choose a topic that has ample opportunity to include them, like those in my  sample-persuasive-speech topics and here are some more topics for a persuasive speech.

Think about your interests, maybe you are wanting some sporting ideas or something fun. In fact if this presentation is for a school assignment or a toast masters public speaking test they might welcome a bit of humour or someone who wants to think outside of the box. If you are up for the challenge consider choosing a fun persuasive speech topic.
