Did you know there are 3 ways to persuade?

Aristotle (384 BC – 322 BC) was a Greek philosopher who wrote on many subjects and has influenced many of today's western philosophies.

He identified 3 persuasion speech methods

• Ethos
• Pathos
• Logos

How can knowledge of these three methods help your persuasive speech? Most people ( whether they know it or not) can be persuaded by one of the three method. Once you know more about your audience and which method will work best on them, you can design your speech to take advantage of your knowledge.

For example if your audience comprises of many parents of young children , and you are trying to convince them to invest in a savings plan, you might want to talk about how a savings plan will benefit your children in the future. You would include words that will tap into their emotions and fears of how their children could suffer if you don't start saving today.
