Persuasive Speeches Method 2Persuasive Speeches Method 2 Pathos
Pathos is probably the method that most audiences relate to. In greek, Pathos means suffering or experience. For those using this persuasive speeches method you will try to convince (remember it is convince not coerce ) your audience to agree with your point of view by appealing to their emotions. Getting them to accept your point of view as their own, means you have to get them to identify with you. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is through stories as it gives you the chance to bring something abstract into reality. There is an art to stories and speeches, and particularly with this persuasive speech method. For your presentation to be successful you really need to get your audience to feel that they are there with you. One of the easiest ways is to use vivid and emotive language. This will help you create a picture so your audience can really see and feel what you are talking about. For example: You might be trying to persuade them to have '2 minute showers, otherwise they might be subjected to water restrictions'. If so you have to paint an image of what it will be like to live with water restrictions. And don't just stick to words, why not use some visual aids as props. A picture of a dirty car, or a brown lawn can often say more than words. Think about what type of emotion you need to appeal to If you are wanting people to donate money, time, clothing etc you need to appeal to their pity emotion. If you want them to join a club or organization evoke feelings of needing to belong or keeping up with the Joneses. Remember emotions are powerful, do not abuse them. This persuasive speech method is often the most popular, but don't forgot the other two methods, Ethos and Logos. Return from sampe of persuasive speeches method 2 to home |
