Proof reading and editing your speech

Proof reading your speech will help you find and then correct any errors it may contain.

Print It Off

You will find it easier to read on paper than on a screen. Also, if it is online you will be tempted to make big rewrites.

Leave It For A While

You need to look at it critically with fresh eyes and mind. You cannot do this after immediately writing it, so take a break. A day is a good rest, although a few hours are better than nothing.

Read It Out Loud- Slowly

This gives your eyes time to read every word you have written. You are more likely to spot any missing words or repeated words. You will also notice any small errors of expression.

Check

  • The sentences flow smoothly into each other.
  • That they are no repetitions.
  • Names are correct.
  • Quotes are acknowledged.
  • That you have not used the same word too often.
  • If you've included any clichés

Add Punctation

Regulate your breathing with commas and full stops.

Pretend You Are In The Audience

Does it make sense? Ask some one else to be in the audience. Do they understand it?.
