Public Speaking Anxiety Help

Are you looking for public speaking anxiety help?

Many people dislike speaking in public but there are some people who dread the prospect of public speaking so much they would rather fail their course or lose out on a promotion. If you are experiencing extreme anxiety or even mild panic, don't despair there is help.

My top recommendation for anyone who has some public speaking anxiety concerns is to check out the panic away program.

Once you've done that you probably have found all the answers you need.

However, let me share with you one of my techniques for overcoming fear.

Have you heard about the highly successful book called The Secret'?

It talks about 'the law of attraction' and how it you can use it to your advantage.

Basically the law of attraction states that if you want something badly enough you can attract it to you.

However the converse is also true, this is what is important when thinking about your public speaking anxiety.

Here's an example.

Whenever you think about your public speaking event do you imagine yourself standing on stage, fidgeting, mumbling, forgetting your words and receiving mediocre applause?

If so, many of those things are likely to happen. I know it sounds unbelievable doesn't it. But think about it for a moment.

Have you ever had days when nothing seems to go right? It's a bit of a snowball effect, one thing goes wrong and then another and another… you know the rest.

The good news is that the opposite is true

If you start off having a good day, positive things appear to happen all day. You end the day having a really successful day.

Some people would argue It's all about the 'law of attraction', there are others who say it just a coincidence

I don't believe that you can get what you want solely though thinking, if it was true many of us would have won the lotto

BUT

I do believe your thoughts have a big impact on your state of mind.

You want to stop negative niggles and thoughts in their tracks before they take hold.

(Want to know how much a niggle can take hold? Have you ever got a tune or song in your head and just can't get rid of it, no matter how hard you try. That's a niggle).

So how can you help your public speaking anxiety.

You need to STOP thinking about all the things that can go wrong

and

START  thinking about how great you can be.

Here is an example of what you can do:

I need you to think positively about the day of your presentation.

First of all, see yourself with a positive attitude a few hours before the event,

What are you doing?

  • Dressing yourself?
  • Humming a happy tune?
  • Looking at yourself in the mirror and seeing a confident, happy, excited person smiling back?

Whatever you are imagining yourself doing, keep it positive.

Now think about the moments before you give your speech.

Think about where you will be.

  • Are you slightly off stage?
  • In the audience or somewhere else?
  • Imagine yourself breathing calmly.
  • Where are your hands, they should be resting relaxed by your side or on your lap.
  • Hear your name being called.
  • See yourself walking confidently to the stage

Speech Time

  • See yourself standing on the stage, owning it.
  • You are smiling.
  • You feel confident.
  • What do you see when you are up there?
  • Your audience listening attentively?
Receiving positive feedback through positive body language?
  • Can you hear the sound of applause?
  • Do you see everyone smiling as you finish your speech?
  • Do you feel a buzz, now you are finished?
  • Are you proud of yourself?

Add some of your own thoughts to these examples but make sure you keep them positive. If negative ones come into your head shoo them away by telling them you will deal with them later (and promptly forget about them).

A positive state of mind will:

  • help reduce your  public speaking fears
  • increase your confidence.

And what's more

audiences are more likely to believe and trust you if you appear confident.
