Retirement Roast Jokes

Retirement roast jokes are becoming popular at retirement parties.

They can turn a standard retirement speech into something unique and humorous.

What are They?

They are a form of teasing, and can vary from being gentle to down right brutal, however they should not be hurtful.

How to Roast

Firstly, you need to decide whether your retiree would appreciate being roasted. As well as a sense of humour they should feel comfortable being laughed at in public.

The more people involved, the greater the fun. If you want others to be involved, give them advance notice so they have time to prepare.

When to do it?

Humorous quotes or roasting should happened in the middle part. You should bring them to a good conclusion before ending with a toast. If others are involved make sure they are ready with their funny stories or witty remarks. You need to keep the momentum going for greater impact.

What about a Video?

A different but popular approach is to create a video of the roasting to play at the party. Not only does this give you the opportunity to edit and organize the jokes to give the maximum effect but afterward you can present it as a gift.

Finding Ideas

Before the big day, start observing the retiree and noting down any of their idiosyncrasy or quirks. Ask their colleagues and friends about items that might aggravate them. Reading a retirement speech topic list may also help spark ideas.

Some Examples

  • Carol never says a bad word about anyone- that’s because she doesn't know anyone.
  • Isn't Lou great? She really lights up a room... the moment she leaves it.
  • John is a middle of a road guy, you just want to put him there and knock him down.
  • Before I introduce Peter let me introduce a few people who admire and revere him.  Oh yes I forget we couldn't find any, oh well here’s Peter.

Props

Using props can give your roasting the added edge. Does the retiree have a strange habit that requires a prop, like the way he sticks a pencil behind the ears, or how she positions her glasses.

Your props may be quite small and easy to obtain like a pencil or you might be thinking about larger scale visual aids. Whichever you choose, know the advantages and disadvantages of using a visual aid in a speech.
